Question: I buy gerbera daisies in the spring, yet they never bloom again. The plants grow well, but no flowers. Help.

Answer: Gerberas are too tempting. When they’re in bloom, there are no prettier flowers. However, with the exception of a few of the newer hybrids, many types don’t respond well to our Texas summers, and they seldom give us a second round of blooms. The plants require copious amounts of water, and whiteflies are common visitors. Probably the best way to use gerberas is to include them in large patio containers early in the spring, then plan on replacing them once they quit flowering.
