Question: My pecans’ kernels have small worms in them as I harvest them in the fall. When did those get in, and how can I prevent them next time?

Answer: Those are pecan weevils, and the adult lays eggs that start to feed in August. If you will spray with a labeled insecticide to prevent hickory shuckworms in early and late August, you’ll also control pecan weevil outbreaks.
