Question: My carrots are always gnarly and mangled looking. What can I do to get better quality?

Answer: Long, tapered carrots need sandy, loose soil to grow to full length and good, straight shape. If you have garden soil that is less than ideal, you’d be far better off to plant some of the stubby-rooted types. Even with that, you’ll want to plant them in raised beds filled with really good garden loam.
