Question: Do most herbs need sun, or can they take shade?

Answer: Most herbs will grow best in nearly full sun, although they seem, as a group, to be tolerant of half shade. Experiment, and you’ll find types that will grow almost anywhere. Sage and basil are good in baking heat, and mint can tolerate almost complete shade, as three extreme examples.
