Question: My bermuda has black seed heads all over it. When I walk though the lawn my white sneakers turn dark. What will stop it?

Answer: That’s smut, a fungal disease. However, instead of trying to control it with some type of fungicide, use a high-nitrogen fertilizer to promote vegetative growth in the grass. Mow frequently to remove the seed heads. They’ll go away within a few weeks anyway.
