Question: Birds are roosting in our trees. Is there any way to discourage them? We don’t want to hurt them.

Answer: Cover the trees with plastic mesh tree netting. It is sold in nurseries and hardware stores, often to keep birds away from ripening fruit such as peaches. It can be draped over the trees like a giant hair net. Use long poles to drape it in place. (Easier said than done.) You can also use aluminum pie plates hung in the trees to create motion, and inflatable owls and snakes can be put in the trees. Warning: the fake snakes may alarm visitors.
