Question: How deeply should I plant my new tree?

Answer: You’ll see a spot on the trunk where the old soil line was in the nursery. The tree should be planted so that that line is at exactly that same spot. Planting a tree slightly higher than it grew in the nursery will help in really poorly drained soils, but it can also lead to surface root problems, and the tree may have a hard time getting water in dry spells. Deep planting risks root rot and death of the tree.
