Question: How do I prune my blackberries?

Answer: You trim the plants drastically the day after you harvest the last fruit. Cut any canes that bore fruit completely to the ground, because they will never bear fruit again. Take the growing tips out of the current year’s vigorous canes at 40 to 45 inches, to encourage side branching and to keep the plants more compact. Otherwise, no additional pruning should be needed.
