Question: How much light will my new seedlings need as they germinate and grow?

Answer: If you’re talking about late winter and early spring sowings, the more the better. Full sunlight would be ideal. Later in the season, when it turns really hot, you might want to give them light shading from mid-day until dusk. If you’re growing the seedlings under fluorescent fixtures, you’ll want to keep the light tubes as close to the plants as possible, preferably just 3 or 4 inches above them.
