Question: How can I get rid of the sprouts that come up around my yaupon holly tree? They’re a foot or two away from the trunk. Are they seedlings?

Answer: Those are most likely sprouts from the root system. Live oaks and crape myrtles also do that. You’ll have to remove them by hand. Chemical sprays would kill the mother tree. You might try putting a barricade of one of the landscape fabrics around the tree, much like a Christmas tree skirt, then covering it with bark mulch or letting a vining groundcover grow across it.
