Question: I have some old, overgrown shrubby junipers. Is it possible to trim them back, and, if so, how and when?

Answer: You have to be careful when you start pruning junipers, because they’re very reluctant to send out new shoots from old wood. It’s best to remove entire branches clear back into the crowns of the plants. Leave some of the existing branches to conceal your cuts and from which the new growth can develop.
