Question: I love geraniums, but they apparently don’t like my garden. The plants turn yellow by late June, and they quit growing and flowering. Is there anything I should be doing? Iron doesn’t seem to green them up.

Answer: Geraniums prefer cooler climates than we have in most parts of Texas. Ideally, they’d get full sunlight and daytime highs no warmer than 80 degrees. Grow them in pots, so they can have that full sunlight in the spring and fall. During the summer, pull them back into afternoon shade, to try to keep the plants alive. They may not bloom in the summer, but at least they won’t bleach from the sunlight. Iron wouldn’t help your plants. They’re getting too much sun, not too little iron.
