Question: I’d like to grow flowers in pots. I have very little ground space, but a nice deck and patio. How successful will that be?

Answer: Depending on the size of the pot, your choice of potting soil and the care you give them, you can be really successful. Use a lightweight commercial potting soil (no native soils). Each pot must have a drainage hole, and they should be 12 inches or more in diameter, just to give the annuals enough root room to grow. We have access now to some absolutely beautiful large decorative pots. Keep the soil moist at all times, and fertilize the plants regularly with a water-soluble, high-nitrogen food. Inlclude a few hanging baskets, too.
