Question: My aspidistra plants are browned around the edges of their leaves. Also they aren’t growing very rapidly. What could I be doing to help them along?

Answer: The browning is probably from freeze injury or drought. They can’t tolerate very much direct summer sun or they’ll bleach and turn brown. Make certain that’s not a concern. Trim off the dead portions and use a lawn-type fertilizer to promote new leaf growth. Aspidistras are notoriously slow-growing, so keep faith that they’ll eventually look great. Keep them moist and mulch them well.
