Question: What are the best groundcovers for shade?

Answer: Mondograss and dwarf mondo and their big sister liriope are the most dependable. English ivy and its cultivars, Persian ivy, Algerian ivy (South Texas only), pachysandra (North Texas only), ajuga, strawberry geranium, vincas and ferns are all effective, perhaps in smaller plantings. Even our best full-sun groundcovers, Asian jasmine and purple wintercreeper euonymus, can be good in shade.
