Question: What is the best way to water my shrubs?

Answer: Slowly and deeply, then wait until they begin to dry out to water them again. Truth is, that advice goes for almost any plant you’re trying to grow. With shrubs, however, there are some added considerations. First, most of our shrubs are near our foundations, so we need to keep a fairly uniform moisture level in the soil. Second, since shrubs will grow taller and denser, if you’re using automatic sprinklers to water them from overhead, you need to watch them regularly to see that they’re properly aligned and that they’re not blocked by new growth. You can also use drip irrigation or soaker hoses. Mulching the shrub beds will help keep the soil uniformly moist.
