Question: What is the low spreading weed with the kidney-shaped leaves? It’s really quite pretty, but it’s taking over my lawn.

Answer: That’s dichondra. It is pretty, enough so that it’s used as a lawn substitute in California. However, it can’t handle the heat of a Texas summer, so it isn’t an option as a lawn substitute here. You can eliminate it with any of the broadleafed weedkillers. In fact, they will specifically warn Californians not to use them on dichondra lawns.
