Answer: There are several good large shrubs. Chief among them is Nellie R. Stevens holly. Mary Nell and yaupon hollies are also excellent, and cherry laurel is good in East Texas' acidic soils. Wax myrtles are often used as screens, but they often thin and die out over 8 to 10 years.
