I Ask for Your Help

The Denton State Supported Living Center is a residential facility for severely and profoundly mentally and physically challenged men and women, average age mid-50s, but functional age 4 or 5. For the 38th year we are seeking your help through our annual one-week fund raiser called Christmas is for Caring.

We began this week seeking gifts for the residents, but those needs have been met. If you pledged a gift, please buy it and wrap it. Put the resident’s first name and the gift ID number on the outside of the wrapping, and take it to any DFW Calloways Nursery before close of business on Sunday. Members of the great Texas Nursery and Landscape Association, Region 5 (Fort Worth region) will pick up the gifts all night Sunday night and carry them to the Denton facility to get ready for the big Christmas party.

Residents of the center really enjoy group outings where they can go out to eat, attend baseball games, go to fairs, the zoo, the aquarium, movies and public gardens and do other things that we all take for granted. Those trips do come with costs, and to enrich the lives of our residents, we are seeking funds to be able to take them off-campus on outings.

Please help us with your donation. Call our phone banks at (214) 525-2550 between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. through Friday, or donate online at vscdenton.org. That’s the website of the Volunteer Services Center of the Denton State Supported Living Center.

Personal note from Neil: For almost all of the 38 years of Christmas Is For Caring I’ve had the joy of helping at the phone banks. I look forward to many more years to follow. Having served on the Volunteer Services board at the Denton State Supported Living Center, I have to tell you that this is a population of fine people who must not be forgotten. I have never left that campus feeling anything less than inspired. From all of us to you, thank you for helping with yet another Christmas is for Caring!
