Question: Are hybrid seeds worth the added cost?
Answer: Absolutely. Resist the temptation to buy “bargain” seeds off discounted racks in discount stores. Choose the very best varieties of vegetables. By the time you have gone to the trouble and expense of getting everything else ready, that extra cent you pay for a hybrid seed will be a tiny additional investment. Hybrids are more aggressive and far more productive. They often have better insect and disease resistance, and they frequently offer superior color or flavor, or both. Heirloom varieties may be historically interesting, but they’re often disappointing in terms of performance and yield.
