Question: Big limbs in my sycamore tree are dying suddenly in the summer. Can I save the tree?

Answer: That’s almost assuredly anthracnose. It’s been a curse of sycamores for decades. Affected leaves turn copper, then brown in irregular patterns, then hang on the limbs for weeks. You need to prune it out of the tree, so it won’t spread through the conducting tissues. Disinfect your pruning tools between cuts with a 10-percent solution of chlorine bleach. Spray as the leaves are about half their normal size in the spring with Bordeaux mixture or a comparable fungicide.
