Question: I have dead spots in my bermuda. They’re about 18 inches in diameter (more or less), and they’re almost completely round. They came on very quickly. What is it, and what can I do to stop it?

Answer: It sounds like cottony blight (Pythium), a disease that often hits in late summer and fall. The grass takes on a greasy dark green look for a couple of days, then turns tan in those circles. Control it by spraying with a labeled fungicide. Your local independent garden center will be most likely to have one that will work.
