Question: I don’t like the looks of the brown seed pods on my mimosas. A neighbor told me that topping the tree would prevent that problem. Is that correct?
Answer: Topping is a terrible act. If a mimosa has seed pods, that means that it also had flowers. If you aren’t willing to let the tree flower, why would you want the mimosa in the first place? Don’t ruin its best attribute and its natural shape by cutting it back each winter.
