Question: I have giant webs of worms in my pecans. Will they kill the trees?

Answer: Both eastern tent caterpillars and fall webworms will attack pecans and other shade and fruit trees. The webworms are larval forms of moths. Spraying is difficult at best. The better way to control webworms is by trimming the webs out as soon as you see them. You’ll be able to use a long-handled pole pruner to nip out the tips of the branches and drop the webs to the ground. If you opt to spray you will need to include a drop or two of a liquid detergent to help the insecticide penetrate into the webs. Webworms and pecans go back many millennia. They present no threat to the trees’ survival.
