Question: We have low spots in our lawn and need to fill them. What time of year is best to do that? What kind of soil should we use?
Answer: Do it when the grass is growing aggressively. Late spring is ideal. Use dry washed brick sand for shallow depressions (1 inch or less). Either use a leaf rake to “comb” the fill through the grass, or wash it in with a spray head on your garden hose. For deeper ruts, dig the sod, and fill in the low area with topsoil, then put the sod back in place.
