Question: How and when do I prune my climbing Lady Banksia rose?
Answer: As with other climbing roses, Lady Banksia should be pruned immediately after it finishes flowering in the spring. However, one thing is different. You’ll notice that Lady Banksia roses produce two distinctly different types of growth. Some of their shoots are normal, zigging and zagging their way skyward, while others zoom bolt upright like rockets. Those “rockets” are slow to bloom and can be removed whenever necessary to keep the plants attractive. Use lopping shears to trim them back to the main canes. If you prefer to tip-prune them to keep them from growing so tall, they’ll probably send out more normal side branches.
