Question: How can I keep a stump from sprouting out?

Answer: If you cut and remove an unwanted shade tree, it very often will send up sprouts from its stump and major roots. Drill finger-sized holes directly into the stump and pour a broadleafed weedkiller containing 2,4-D directly into the holes. As it soaks into the wood it will also be carried to the roots where it will stop further growth and sprouting.
