Question: How can I keep dogs from ruining my plantings?
Answer: You may be able to rely on simple teaching and instruction. You can also use low-voltage shock fences with the dogs. You can find small boxed kits with all the necessary materials in hardware stores and home centers. There are more elaborate systems with buried cables and with collars that the dogs wear anytime they’re outdoors. There are pet-repelling products that smell bad, or you might use mothballs or rags dipped in ammonia. Many plantings, especially flowers and vegetables, can even be made in large containers. Not only will it make “featured stars” out of the plants, but it will also keep them out of harm’s way.
