Question: How can I start an avocado from seed?

Answer: Save the large seed, and either plant it into a pot with good potting soil, or stick three toothpicks into it so that you can suspend it part-way down into a glass filled with water. Remember, always, that the flat end goes down. It will gradually sprout roots and stem tissues and start growing. You can leave it in the water for a while, but eventually it will need to be potted up as a conventional plant and grown in potting soil.
