Question: How can I start new fig plants? I have one that was in my old home garden, and I don’t know what variety it is.
Answer: Figs are started from cuttings. Hardwood cuttings are taken in late winter, or semi-hardwood cuttings can be taken in early summer. In either case, your cuttings should be 4 to 6 inches long. All figs are started this way, and you’ll get exactly the same variety as the original.
