Question: How heavily should we water our houseplants?
Answer: Nobody wants to have water running out the bottoms of flower pots and across the floor, but you do need to water your plants heavily enough that water drains out at least every four or five times that you water. That will eliminate the accumulation of mineral salts. Be sure, however, to discard the water that drains out. Don’t leave it in the plastic saucer under the plant, or those mineral salts will be picked right back up again.
