Question: How do I pick the best combination for my annual flowers? I want something that is really showy.
Answer: For years, we used just one or two types and colors of flowers per bed. We did so to be able to mass colors together for the greatest impact. Beds of mixed colors, pansies, for example, don’t show up very well from a distance. In more recent years, seed companies have been producing harmonious blends of complementary shades. Also, remember that brighter, “warmer” colors advance visually, so passers-by will see them first. If you want to have an area look larger, use pastels and “cooler” colors.
