Question: I really like purple fountain grass. Will it make it through the winter? Someone has told me it is an annual.
Answer: In most of Texas, it will be an annual, dying out with the first hard freeze. If you want to overwinter it, you’ll need to dig and divide it before the first killing freeze. Plant it into one-gallon pots and put it in a warm, sunny greenhouse until spring. Most of us consider that too much work for the reward. It’s easier just to buy new plants in the spring.
