Question: Our Indian hawthorns have maroon spots on their leaves. If it’s a disease, what kind of spray should we use?
Answer: That’s Entomosporium fungal leaf spot. It’s the same disease that has ruined redtip photinias and caused us not to recommend them for landscaping. Sadly, Indian hawthorns are showing the same problems. There is no preventive treatment, nor is there any fungicide that will control the disease. Carissa holly is a good replacement in terms of mature plant size and texture.
