Question: My lantanas seem to have spurts of blooms, then no flowers for a while. Are there some varieties that bloom more consistently than others?

Answer: The triploid variety ‘New Gold’ is touted as blooming more of the time, but that may not always be true. Lantanas bloom on their new growth, so the best thing you can do to keep them flowering is to keep them growing. Apply a high-nitrogen, water-soluble fertilizer to them every couple of weeks. Shearing them back by one-third in mid-summer, then feeding and watering them may also initiate a burst of fresh, new growth.
