Question: My palm’s leaves were turning tan in fine specks, but now they’re brown and dead.
Answer: That’s the old nemesis, spider mites. Control them as quickly as you see their tell-tale tan mottling. Use an insecticidal spray or soil drench that is labeled for them. If you’re spraying, coat both top and bottom leaf surfaces. You should apply insecticides at a time when you can move the plant into the garage or outdoors to a shady spot. All palms are highly susceptible.
