Question: My pecans try to sprout while they’re still on the tree. What can I do to stop it? Does it completely ruin them?

Answer: That’s a physiological process called “vivapary.” It’s common to a few varieties, most notably Burkett. It’s worse in wet falls, and, yes, it does ruin those particular pecans. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do for it.
