Question: My pyracantha has clusters of chocolate brown leaves. They seem to be matted together. What insect causes that, and can it be controlled?

Answer: Leaf tying insects do that damage, and they can be controlled with a systemic insecticide applied a week or two before you traditionally see their damage. You might want to trim off the clusters to reduce the future populations.
