Question: I have a tree that has been leaning at an angle for several years. Can I use a cable to pull it back to vertical? How long will I need to leave it staked before I can remove the cable?
Answer: The tree will always go back to its angled habit of growth after the cable is removed, even if you wait for several years before you take it away. The only way you can get your tree back into a vertical plane is to dig and replant it. That does enough damage to an established tree that you may want to think twice about doing it.
