Question: What is the earliest I can plant my pansies in the fall? Nurseries begin getting them before it turns cool.

Answer: You should not plant pansies until you’ve had some very cool evenings, usually early October and thereafter in North Texas and mid- to late October in South Texas. If you plant them too early (when daytime highs are approaching 90 degrees), they’ll grow too tall and lanky before they start flowering.
