Answer: You can use a lawn-type of fertilizer early in the spring, but do so very sparingly. You really don’t want very much vigorous growth on pears, since that soft, succulent tissue is more vulnerable to fire blight. Your pear will probably get adequate fertilizer simply from what filters in from adjacent turf.
