Question: What size of groundcover plants would be best to buy at the nursery?
Answer: It depends on time of year and budget. The later you plant in the fall, or if you plant during the summer, the greater margin of error you’ll build in by using larger plants. You’ll find groundcovers in 4-inch and even one-gallon containers, for example. They have deeper roots, so they’re better protected against frozen soil or heat and short-term dry soils. Otherwise, you can use the smaller plants for most types of groundcovers.
