Question: What varieties of strawberries are best for Texas, and where can I buy them? How good are the everbearing types?
Answer: You want most of your planting to be of the spring-bearing types. You’ll get all of the fruit at one time, granted, but those spring-fruiting types will greatly out-produce the everbearing varieties. Check the Texas A&M Horticulture Department website for latest variety recommendations. Nurseries and farm supply stores will often sell small bare-rooted plants plants in early spring. Some will even sell potted transplants in the spring.
