Question: What will control squash bugs? They’re all over my plants, and the plants seem to be dying.
Answer: All the true “bugs” (shield-shaped backs) are notoriously resistant to insecticides. Insecticidal dust will help with the young squash bugs, and you can hand-pick the mature ones. Perhaps the best way, however, is to prop a board beneath each plant. At mid-day, when the temperatures are high, the squash bugs will congregate in the shade of the boards. You can merely knock the props out and eliminate the squash bugs with one heavy press of the foot.
