Question: When the first freeze comes in the fall, can I harvest the green tomatoes that are on my plants? Will they ripen indoors?
Answer: Many of the immature tomatoes will go ahead and ripen. Cut through a couple of representative fruit with a very sharp knife. If the seeds move out of the way of the knife, then that fruit would have ripened indoors quite well. If the seeds do not move aside, but are cut by the knife, then those fruit would make great relish. Use them right away. They will ripen no further.
