Question: Why are branches of my Leyland cypress turning brown? Sap is flowing from the trunk.

Answer: That is due to a serious disease called Sereidum canker. It becomes much more prevalent when the plants are under stress, sometimes with prolonged wet weather, but most especially during heat and drought. There is no preventive or control for the disease. It’s better to start with eastern redcedar initially, and it can be used as a replacement tree that will grow to the same height and spread with a similar appearance.
