Question: Why do my pines look so bad late in the summer and into the fall? They’re losing lots of needles.

Answer: Those are usually old needles, down within the foliage. As with other evergreens, pines shed their leaves all through the growing season. It seems to be more pronounced after a hot, dry summer and just before the winter. It’s not a big concern, however.
