Question: What size of garden hose is best?
Answer: Most 1/2-inch hoses are cheaply made and won’t last, and 3/4-inch hoses are too heavy when they’re filled with water. As a compromise, look for a quality 5/8-inch hose that will retain its flexibility even in colder weather. Measure the distance from your faucets to the most distant points to determine length. Don’t leave your hose attached to the faucet during freezing weather. Not only will the hose be brittle when it’s filled with ice, but you also risk freezing the pipes in the outer walls of your house.
